It’s time to stop using the word “Why”. Unless you are a philosopher or an immigrant from a polysyllabic country, there is little reason to keep asking “Why”. Do a search in your brain for “Why” questions that don’t motivate you to take action and replace them with “How” questions.

“Why” is often used to make excuses and overuse of the word can lull us into victim mode. Here are some typical why questions:

Why didn’t I get that job?

Why did I sell those stocks?

Why does that man keep staring at my wallet?

Why questions tend to be a complaint that either nature or nurture dealt you a poor hand. … [visit site to read more]

“Eighty percent of drivers are angry most or all of the time while driving“, this according to Yahoo! Geocites. It’s a scary notion considering road rage is a major cause of accidents. I myself have felt the symptoms many times while driving. It’s like the moment we enter a car our fuses automatically get shorter and anything that gets in our way sets us off immediately. Someone cuts you off, your face turns red, you feel your blood boil inside you. All that rage has to have an outlet and it ranges from the more mild cursing, laying on the horn, giving the finger, up to the more aggressive “payback” by tailgating, chasing and cutting off the person in return, purposely slamming into the guy, and even pulling a gun. I’m sure you agree that none of this is good. Besides the potential danger, anger and stress are just not healthy; they cause high blood pressure, stomach pain, head aches, and ultimately can lead to heart attacks. … [visit site to read more]

‘Tis the season to be jolly…And wow, are those viruses merrymaking! Here is the perfect environment for the common cold: It’s cold outside so we leave our windows closed. We are too lazy to exercise. We tend to attend more parties, what with Christmas, New Years, Hanukkah, etc. so we are in contact with more people in enclosed areas. Now the virus can spread, like wild-fire. And so, half the staff is home sick with a cold or the flu, we all have some extra tissues in our bags. It’s winter, and it’s sniffles paradise.

So, what should we do to prevent the sniffles?

The holidays are over and we gained a few more presents and the inevitable extra pounds. So how do we get rid of them? Well, the bottom line is not new to anyone: it has to do with exercise and eating. But we don’t have to run 5 miles everyday and eat like a rabbit to look and feel healthy.

I know it’s not easy to workout during this season. First of all, it’s cold outside, it’s raining, or snowing or just too cold to go out for a morning walk or jog. All I want to do is curl up in a warm blanket in front of the heater and watch TV or read a book. Who wants to exercise? Besides, I have a deadline for the end of the week. I don’t have time. Sound familiar?

News flash! It’s not only you who loves to be lazy - it’s your fat cells as well. … [visit site to read more]

If there is anyone out there who has never had trouble sleeping, you must be a pretty unique person. As for the rest of us laymen who have experienced inability to fall asleep, restless sleeping and early waking; there are ways to help. And yes, it can be done without pills.

For many of us, getting into bed at night after a long, action-packed day, is like coming out of a very loud dance club. When we are inside our ears adapt to the loud amps but when we step into silence we can’t really enjoy it. We hear a high-pitched ringing or the music continues to play in our minds. In much the same way, we lie in bed and continue to see and hear all the things that happened during the day or we have endless thoughts about what will be tomorrow or about the presentation we have to give in a week.

All that busy noise can drive some of us crazy. And thus, sleep eludes us. Certainly, for some this is the only quiet time they have to collect their thoughts, make decisions and come to conclusions about their day. You might like it, but it won’t help you sleep. … [visit site to read more]
